Botox or Daxxify: how we choose

The same job, different clocks

Botox and Daxxify are both botulinum toxin type A, and at the muscle they do the same job: they interrupt the chemical signal that tells a muscle to contract, so expression softens while the nerve gradually restores the connection. The difference is what surrounds the toxin. Botox is stabilised with human serum albumin; Daxxify uses a proprietary peptide instead, with no human or animal-derived components. That formulation difference is not a marketing detail — it is the leading explanation for why the two behave differently over time.

Duration in real patients

Botox in the glabella typically holds three to four months. Daxxify was studied for longer: in the manufacturer’s pivotal trial, median duration ran to roughly six months, with a subset of participants holding meaningfully beyond that. Real patients vary more than a trial median suggests. Dose, metabolism, muscle mass and how hard you use those muscles all move the number, and someone who trains heavily or carries tension in the brow will usually return sooner. We quote ranges rather than promises, and we record what your face actually did, so the second round is better informed than the first.

The right toxin is the one that fits your calendar, not our inventory.

Who tends toward which

If the maintenance rhythm is what you dislike — if three visits a year feels like two too many — Daxxify’s longer runway is the argument for it. If you are new to tox, we usually start with Botox: a shorter clock is a feature while you are still learning how you like to look, because a result you did not want resolves sooner. Dosing history matters too; someone who has metabolised Botox quickly for years is a reasonable candidate to try the longer-acting option. And calendars decide more than people expect — a wedding, a season of travel, a scheduled surgery each argue for a particular onset and a particular tail.

What we watch at your follow-up

We see you at two weeks, once the result has fully settled. That visit is not a formality: it is where we compare what we planned against what your muscles actually did, and where small asymmetries are corrected while correction is still easy. A touch-up inside that window is part of the treatment, not an upsell. We would rather dose conservatively and add than overshoot and wait it out — too much softening is undone only by time, and time is the one variable we cannot adjust for you.
